August Beauty Favorites

Ok, before I start, can I just talk about how excited I am to finally get to do a "monthly favorites" post? As a self-proclaimed Youtube beauty junkie, I always look forward to seeing what my favorite beauty gurus have chosen each month as their top products, and I have even more fun once I get the chance to purchase them and try them out for myself. I'm no expert by any means, but I'm pretty confident that you'll love each of the items I've chosen as much as I do!

1.  e.l.f  Studio Contouring Blush & Bronzing Powder ($3)

Don't tell anyone, but I've become a bit of a snob when it comes to makeup over the past year or so. As someone who used to have very little interest in beauty products beyond the bare essentials, I would have never predicted that I would someday start to look down upon drugstore items. While I still refuse to buy mid to high end mascara or lip products (with rare exception), I've started to look to more expensive brands when it comes to products that go on my face. I decided to give this a try after reading that this e.l.f. compact is an almost exact dupe for the NARS Orgasm/Laguna duo, and I'm so glad it's in my collection now! If I could sum up this compact in one word, it would have to be "convenient". I brought this along with me on two trips this summer, and it was so nice not having to seperately pack both a blush AND a bronzer into my tiny travel makeup bag. The bronzer is a nice, blendable, matte tan that's not too dark on my lighter skin, and the blush truly is remarkably similar to  "Orgasm".  If you've yet to try this product, consider this a sign from the heavens above. With an almost too-good-to-be-true price of $3.00, what do you have to lose?

2. Lush "Buffy" Body Butter ($11.95-22.95)

I received "Buffy" about a week ago in the "My Fair Lady" gift set from Lush, and I honestly can't rave about this product enough. I had heard great things about "Buffy" and Lush products in general from several people, but I didn't quite know what to expect when it came time to actually try it out in the shower. The first thing I immediately noticed was that it is seriously exfoliating, like, I didn't even know something could BE so refreshingly gritty, but it. is. amazing (it's made with ground almonds, rice, and beans...holy grit). I'm a big fan of exfoliating face washes, but they tend to make my skin feel raw afterwards, and as far as exfoliating body washes go, my arms and legs are usually very irritated and itchy due to my skin's sensitivity to heavy scents. "Buffy" didn't cause my skin to experience any irritation, and because its made with massive amounts of shea butter, my skin felt super hydrated and smooth hours after I got out of the shower. Hands down, I will be using this product for a very, very, very long time. Amen.

3. Tarte Amazonian Clay 12-hour Full Coverage Foundation with SPF 15 ($38)

This is more than a monthly favorite, this foundation is holy grail status. I've worn this stuff almost every day since I purchased it almost three months ago, which is a big deal for someone like me who switches products up constantly. Unlike other liquid foundations I've tried, this has never given me that greasy, itchy, "oh crap I can feel this breaking me out" feeling. I alternate using it with either a damp beauty blender (also a holy grail product) or with Tarte's airbrush finish bamboo foundation brush, but I'm sure it's also easy to apply with your fingertips, as it blends so beautifully. I never feel cakey or overly made up when I wear this foundation, and while it's rather pricy compared to drugstore options, I find it to be well worth the money and I will definitely be purchasing it again.

4. Maybelline Color Sensational High Shine Gloss in Captivating Coral (around $7.49)

I've been on the hunt for the perfect coral lipgloss for a while now, and while this gloss is a bit more orange than what I was originally looking for, I'm still a huge fan. I'm amazed at how highly pigmented this stuff is, I've honestly never used a lipgloss with such bold and lasting color before, and I'm seriously impressed with how great the formula is for it to be a drugstore product. I recently purchased another one of these glosses in "Mirrored Mauve", and I have a feeling that it'll be featured in a favorites list within the next few months. The packaging is also super cute and sleek, AND the gloss smells like dreamsicle ice cream. W-I-N.

5. Proactiv 3 Step Kit ($29.95)

Guys, my skin has been on a legit roller coaster the past month or so. While I usually only suffer from breakouts during my favorite ~*tImE oF tHe mOnTh*~, August has been quite the exception. If you've ever experienced those massive, painful, shiny, unpoppable, under the skin, smallpox pustule looking demons, then you'll know what kind of trauma my chin and I were dealing with. I think it may have something to do with the fact that I started using Tarte's Maracuja Oil recently, and hopefully it's just taking some time for my already oily skin to get used to being slathered with even MORE oil, but after using Proactiv religiously (AKA all three steps morning and night) for the past week or so, my skin is clear again AND it looks even better than it did before it broke out in the first place.

Proactiv recently changed their formula, which is now known as Proactiv+. While I'm still using the discontinued version, I'll be receiving my subscription of the new formula within in a month or so, and I'm sure it's just as good (if not better) than before!

P.S. Proactiv offers a 60-day money back guarantee, which is plenty of time to test it out for yourself and see results risk free!

P.P.S. Don't look up "smallpox pustule" on google images unless you want to be horrified...But seriously, that's what my zit looked like.

6. Stila Stay All Day Waterproof Liquid Eye Liner in Black ($20)

Once upon a time, I bought a black liquid eye liner that was a dream come true. It was the Maybelline Eye Studio Master Precise liner, and it was utter perfection. I eventually used up two of them, and since then I haven't been able to find them anywhere! According to Maybelline's website, they're still out there, but I've yet to come across one for a while. I've since tried similar products from NYX and Revlon, but it just wasn't the same. For starters, the brushes weren't right. The Master Precise liner from Maybelline has a long, tapered tip that makes drawing thin or thick lines very simple. My other liners that I tried, however, had more blunt and almost marker like tips, which I wasn't a fan of. Second, the other liners I tried weren't nearly as pigmented as what I experienced with Maybelline; I like my liner like I like my cats. Black.

Long story short, I had heard amazing things about the Stay All Day liner from Stilla, so I decided to swatch it at Ulta one day and I instantly fell in love. Not only is the brush tip perfect and the color payoff extremely dark, this product really does "stay all day", AND it comes in a range of absolutely gorgeous and unique colors (I've had my eye on the minty turquoise color almost all summer). While it's a bit pricy ($20), it's worth it to me unless I somehow happen to stumble across my beloved Maybelline liner again.

Welcome to my hand! (Top:Maybelline, Middle:NYX and Revlon, respectively, Bottom:Stila) Look at that pigmentation!

Alrighty! Those are my top makeup and skincare picks that I've been loving this month! Have you tried these products? What do you think? I'd love to know what you've been obsessing over lately, comment below and share your favorites with me! :)
