This may sound strange, but I've been dreaming of doing an empties post for years now. Ever since I started watching beauty videos on YouTube, I've wanted to save all the products I've used up in a cute little box and do a review over them once the box is full...and that's exactly what I did for this post! Read below to see what I've devoured the past few weeks, how I liked them, and if I plan to repurchase them in the future!
I refer to this as my "pre-primer primer", because since I started using it, it feels strange to put any other product on my face unless I've applied this moisturizer first. While it's not the cheapest option as far as drugstore moisturizers are concerned, I really do think it's worth the price. I've been using this product daily for about 3 months now, and I went out and repurchased this immediately after I ran out. As an oily skinned gal, I've really noticed a difference in my makeup since I bought this product; it is definitely an oil control moisturizer. It's never make me break out, plus the added benefits of the high SPF make it one of my holy grail skincare products!
2. Dr. Brandt "Pores No More" Pore Refiner ($45.00)
I received a sample this primer in my Ipsy bag a few months ago, and I fell in love with it very quickly. For starters, I love the way this product smells; sort of like a warm autumn scented potpourri (a strange association, I know). It's also a bit tinted, which adds a very slight amount of coverage before you even put any foundation or concealer on. Finally, the consistency of this primer is somewhat mousse-y (is this a word?). It reminds me of the whipped Yoplait yogurts, which have a very light and airy feel to them. I would love to be able to afford a full-sized version of this lovely stuff, but my meager funds won't allow such luxuries, unfortunately. I can only keep my fingers crossed that I'll receive another sample of it in the near future!
3. Maybelline Volum' Express Rocket Mascara ($7.49)
My favorite thing about this mascara has got to be the brush. For some reason, I inevitably end up poking myself in the eye with other types of wands, but this one is very firm and round, which allows the tiniest little bristles to really get in between your lashes right at the base. My lashes never look clumpy with this mascara, which is something that I truly despise. I wanted to repurchase this once the tube started going dry, but I couldn't seem to find it the next time I went to the store, so I ended up buying the "Falsies" variety instead (which is still good, but not as great as the "Rocket"). Next time, it will be mine.
4. Dove Refresh + Care Invigorating Dry Shampoo ($3.94)
While I did use the entire can of this dry shampoo, I can't exactly say it's my overall favorite. While it did make my hair feel and smell fresh, I'm not a huge fan of its almost too clean scent, plus it didn't help at all at adding volume when and where I wanted it. All in all, I may repurchase it, but I recently bought another dry shampoo from Big Sexy Hair that's incredibly volumizing (and quite nice smelling), so I have a feeling I'll be sticking with it for quite a while.
5. Target Up & Up Smoothing Shave Gel with Soy ($2.79)
Not the most exciting product out there, but it got the job done. I have very sensitive skin on my legs, which results in super itchy nightmares if I use an overly scented soap or shaving cream in the shower. As far as I can remember, I never had an itchy spell while using this product, plus it's Target's off-brand which means it's also super cheap! They have all sorts of other scents and formulas that are identical to name brand shaving creams, so there's certainly one out there for everyone's personal preferences! I recently purchased the kind for sensitive skin, but it doesn't smell nearly as nice as this kind did. This one takes the (cream) cake.
6. Simple Skincare Cleansing Facial Wipes ($5.99 for 25-count)
If there's one product that I go through faster than all the others combined, it has to be face wipes. I buy a new pack of these bad boys about once every other week, which is totally fine because they're super affordable. These are definitely my favorite face wipes because they do a great job of removing all of my makeup with one wipe, including mascara, without having to rub my skin too vigorously. I recently purchased Target's off-brand version of these, but they just aren't the same. I'm looking forward to having the real deal again once I run out of the generic kind.
Hooray! That concludes my very first empties post! I'm already working on finishing up some almost empty products that I'll review within the next few weeks, so be on the lookout for an even better range of products next time!
Comment below and let me know if you've tried any of these products before, I'd love to know what you thought of them.
